This type of music is not influenced by the rules of classical music or any standard musical styles, Regular practice is not needed for folk music. It is a
spontaneous expression in easy language, local dialect and simple tune. It is the manifestation of the joys and sorrows of everyday life. In Bangladesh folk music has a great variety. These songs are composed on the culture, festivals and views of life, natural beauty, rivers and riverine life. These songs are also based on social inequality, poverty, mysticism etc. Bhatiali, Bhawaiya, Baul, Jarigan, Sari gan, Murshidi, Marphati, Gambhir, kobigan, Leto etc belong to this group. There are some prominent contributors of folk music. They
are- Lalon Shah, Shah Abdul Karim, Hasan Raza, Abbas Uddin, Abdul Alim Radha Roman and the like. Music plays an important role in our social and cultural life. It is a source of great entertainment to the rural people of Bangladesh. Folk songs must be preserved to uphold our own cultural identity in this age of globalization.
