| A craftwork is an applied form of art. It is a social and cultural product that reflects the folk imagination. Craftwork represents a way of lifestyle and cultural flavour of a society. It has its own artistic design and motifs. It has a tactile feeling that makes the whole work lively and appealing. Though a craftwork does not bear the name of its maker, it retains a personal touch. If we observe a craftwork, we will find some important things such as individual creativity, community aesthetics, human values etc. A craftwork is ever changing considering its market value. But community aesthetics always gets priority. The terracotta dolls, the age-old Nakshikantha, cane works, wood works etc. are the glaring examples of craftwork in Bangladesh. The present market is highly competitive. As a result, there is a clash between pure handmade craftworks and mechanically produced craftworks. However, crafts that are still practiced can be safeguarded. This can be done by providing grants, loans and support to the producers. Thus helping them find a comfortable customer base. Marketing is always important thing as there is always buyers and users of handmade products who feel a strong attraction towards such cultural products. |
